“When I say ‘salutations,’ it’s just my fancy way of saying hello or good morning.”- E.B. White, Charlotte’s Webb
Greetings and salutations to all Queen B admirers, a group I refer to as Team Queen B.
Allow me to start by saying, Happy Easter! I hope this day is as joyful for you as it is for me.
The pastel spring colors, the blue sky, the marshmallow and all things Easter, make for such a grand day!
By way of introduction, my name is Marcy. I am otherwise known as Bentley’s stylist.
I also happen to be her mom.
I would like to make my guest appearance a bold one, and what better way than to answer some of your most pressing questions regarding the prima donna to be.
Maybe you have wondered a few yourself, or maybe you have been an asker and you will soon learn my sincerest thoughts behind some of these no brainers.
Let’s get right to it!
“Has Bentley always wanted to be a prima donna?”
Someone bring me an ice pack, I am feeling quite flushed simply writing it. I shall maintain my composure for the moment. However, I am as perplexed by this question as the asker appears to be by my standard and truthful answer, which is… Bentley does not “want to be” a prima donna.
She is a prima donna. Have you ever heard of manifesto?
Moving right along…
“Does Bentley look good in every dress?”
This is extremely easy… one word.
YES!!
Typically, I do not care to elaborate. I prefer the feel of a solid yes followed by the pause that turns awkward. You know the one. The pause that is perhaps expecting more, or waiting for further comment.
Right, that one. I don’t give more. I meant I actually prefer the solid yes without further comment because of the awkward. It makes me giggle!
But, just for you, this time, I will go on.
Yes, Bentley looks good in every dress she wears, or else she would not wear it.
It isn’t the dress, it’s her. Just not in the way that may sound.
It’s her, the same way it is me, or you! It’s any of us. Well, it can be.
I’ve always told her, the girl makes the dress, the dress doesn’t make the girl. It comes from the inside. I could, as her stylist, deliver something most beautiful. But if she didn’t feel confident in it, we wouldn’t see what we see when she is in a Bentley dress!
She wouldn’t feel beautiful in it. This is true for each of us.
A better question would be… how do you achieve that feeling so you can make the dress?
That is a life long journey of internal development and growth. My hope for everyone is that they experience the all knowing air of making that dress!
The next question comes with warning. If you are an artist or attend school with Bentley, continue cautiously…
“You go to college for that?”
I don’t believe this deserves an answer, but a story in response to it can be found here.
“How did Bentley get into classical music?”
When I am asked this question, I fear I must admit, I can only pretend to understand what it means.
I get into my car. I get into the pool.
Have you ever seen an episode of 20/20 where they are taking a poll?
They stand on a busy street corner somewhere and stop random people and ask simple American history or government questions. You watch person after person answer them wrong.
Then, they a question about the Kardashians or some similar cultural reference, and they get it right without hesitation. Some of us sit feeling second hand embarrassment during this.
That’s how I feel about this question.
“When did you know that Bentley could sing?”
From a young age, she would sit through things other two year olds didn’t yet possess the attention span for, like The Sound of Music and Grease. Whenever she sang the songs she heard, it always had a pretty sound. She has been learning how to sing properly ever since.
“On Bentley’s blog, is she being funny or serious?”
She is being dead serious and that’s what makes it so funny.
Just like last week when she told me she had this great idea; next school year, she should get a place for herself, and have two bedrooms, so she has an extra room for all her dresses and shoes.
And in case her sister or a friend visit. In that order.
Yes. She’s serious. That is funny. Some may consider this to be excessive, I imagine.
In her defense, if you saw my closet, it would explain a lot. It’s like a dream come true with a window.
And no, Bentley is not an only child.
Here, I have saved the best two questions for last.
“Where do you find Bentley’s dresses?”
Anywhere and everywhere… name the dress and I’ll name the place. Otherwise, we’d be here all day.
“Can you be my stylist also?”
I could be, but I’d have to be your life coach first.
And on this note I say… to all things Queen B! Consider your questions answered, and all puzzlement RESOLVED!
And to my dearest Bentley, in just your dad and I alone, you will always have a team bigger than you could possibly ever need.
As always, I’ll meet you at the Met!
Xxxxoooo
