Spring for the Summer

This past week, a voice professor at my school hosted a recital of varying works featuring performances from faculty, students, and alumni. It was really amazing to watch!

Ms. Pancella’s resonating vocals alone could keep me alive for the rest of eternity. The performance was completely captivating, and the creativity and energy from all involved has left me thoughtful and energized, even into today.

I love those days of feeling utterly inspired! Who doesn’t?

The funny thing is… it has been pouring rain all morning, the sun nowhere to be seen, and I am entirely certain that it will continue on in this manner for the rest of the day. But, utterly inspired I am!

The hustle and bustle of school is all encompassing. It is attending classes and learning the foundational skills that our curriculum establishes the first two years, all the collaboration and performance opportunities that are offered, like my accompanist’s recital over the weekend, and all the camaraderie in between.

Even just saying hello to my professors and fellow students in passing makes me feel part of the community that I have found myself in.

As significant as my vocal development is during this time, which I discuss at length frequently, seriously, catch me at any time of day and I will talk to you about it, the true reason that I am at here is the cumulative experience of all of these things.

What ways am I going to grow in the next two years? What sort of challenges did I face and what did I gain from working through them?

Who did I meet and did I appreciate, in the moment, all they had to offer me through their presence, as short or as long as our time together was?

These lessons will guarantee a lifetime of learning ahead of me. This is my greatest hope of all.

How else am I going to truly cherish what I have and what this life has given me? All the dazzling pairs of shoes I have yet to see, and dresses yet to be worn. Stages yet to be graced, and audiences yet to be amazed!!!

To be truly present, I allow myself to be reminded of all that has inspired me and all that has yet to!

The things I know day to day are like…

Feel pretty, sing pretty.

Strive for excellence.

My future as a prima donna.

I am Bentley Summer!

The official coming of Spring, by the way, means that Summer is just around the corner!

I cannot wait for the next adventure that the sunniest season will bring.

I hope that the little things make you smile today. Listen to your favorite song. List your most favorable attributes. Freshen up your nail polish. Share positive messages with your loved ones. Order your favorite dessert just because you love it!!!

Yes. Marvel at the decadent bread pudding my friend and I shared after dinner the other night.

This life is generous, and don’t you forget it.

Happy, marvelous Spring!

XOXO, Bentley

Your level up is of little wonder to me. If only we could bring some others with us. Sigh.

This was so inspirational!! I have been feeling totally drab, especially with this strange cold weather here in the Big Apple. And with life getting the best of me, it was great to be reminded that I have so many shoes to still wear, clothes to style, things to write, movies to star in and red carpets to grace! Life is truly generous!!! Thank you for the reminder, B! My Prima Donna!

That was a refreshing post, and one I will do my best to carry with me in the days, weeks and months ahead. Thanks Mighty B…

Jake, I appreciate your public support of my blog. It is true that I enjoy many kinds of formal gatherings, namely of them a ball, especially of the masquerade variety.
