A Pandemic the Prima Donna Way

I hope that despite the circumstances, you were able to relax and enjoy yourself, your loved ones, your family, or whomever, last week.

Between finishing my final exams, getting home, and being hit in the face with the cold, dreariness of winter quickly approaching, I, too, have had to make a more dedicated effort than usual to remind myself how lucky I am.

Life as a prima donna is not easy.

I may love to glam up the best parts, and even laugh at the worst parts, like my meltdowns, and how it is not just on stage… it is literally who I am.

But, even us drama queens that live for excitement and the finer things in life experience bland, boring stretches, especially during this pandemic.

Even though I was born to rule in the summer time, I do love Christmas. I always have.

I am an avid baker, my graduation gift was actually my beloved, darling pink Kitchen Aid mixer. Fortunately, it is way more acceptable to bake your pants off during the holidays than on the casual Wednesday afternoon.

People get to spend time with their families, you already know how much I enjoy the repetitive, norm-standardizing Christmas movies, even though they are all the same.

The sparkle. The Christmas tree. The wrapping paper.

The shoes underneath the wrapping paper, underneath the tree.

I cannot help it.

The only thing is that I wish I could spend Christmas in Australia, with my dear friend, the warm sunshine.

Anyway, this year, we have all missed out on a lot, while cheering on our front line workers, raising awareness and fighting against the ongoing issues in the world, all while battling the hot politics of a pandemic. Why is that political, again?

It is okay to feel cheated against for life throwing this huge tantrum our way.

We are not supposed to be locked inside like this, in such close proximity to the people we live with, non-stop! It is nuts!

But to remember that, ground yourself, and keep moving forward, is the Queen’s way.

Do not let the instance of the present be disappointing. It is all we have!

It is the place for opportunity, growth, community, and connection, even when we are feeling our lowest.

Express yourself!

Be unafraid to unleash your inner queen! Be selfish, take the time you need to better yourself, exist for yourself, be your truest self.

And then, you can find fulfillment, even if only for a few moments each day, in this hectic, uncertain, seemingly never ending time.

It will not be this way forever.

With that, I will be back to my usual programming next Saturday. Watch out…

XO

So well written and so much fun… I love the playful approach to our hard realities and the reminder that a smile can transform any day into a magnificent one!
